Formerly a fundraiser and the Executive Director of the Bureau of Jewish Education in Sacramento, CA, Rabbi Stanley Halpern came to Temple Israel in 1988. Committed to lifelong Jewish study, the prophetic vision of justice and Tikkun Olan (the healing of the world), he has inbued our Temple family with a love of learning the desire to put the highest ideals of Judaism into practice.
Always readily accessible, Rabbi encourages personal study as well as participation in Temple's ongoing Torah study classes, film and book series, monthly Shabbat for Study and Worship. Under the guidance of Rabbi Halpern, a master teacher, students from the Religious School eagerly go on to Confirmation and often continue their Judaic studies through their high school years.
Rabbi Halpern leads Temple Israel by example through his involvement with such civic organizations as Community Hospital Bio-Ethics Committee, Committee For the Ethical Treatment of Animals at the IUN Medical School, and Hospice of the Calumet Area.
